Mobilize — My 5

Five names you already know.

Identify five people in your everyday relationships who need prayer, care and the hope of Jesus. Then pray for them by name, every day.

Everyone can reach someone.

Why five, and why these five

The people already in your life are the point, not the practice run.

Most people wait to feel ready, or to meet a stranger who somehow makes it easier. Neither arrives. The five people you already know are where the work is, and where the trust already is.

  • You are not starting from zero

Faith-sharing becomes natural when you begin with the people God has already placed around you. There is no introduction to make, no trust to build from nothing, and no reason to be anywhere other than your ordinary week.

  • It does not depend on your personality

You do not need a certain personality to share your faith. This is not about being outgoing, it is about being available. Five names make availability specific instead of vague.

  • You are not doing this alone

The Holy Spirit is already at work in people's lives, long before you say anything. Your role is to take a step and trust God with the rest.

Make your card

Write the five names down.

Naming them is the whole discipline. Type them here and take the card with you, or print a blank one and fill it in by hand.

These names stay on your device. Nothing is sent to us and nothing is saved.

How to choose your five

Name them, then pray them.

This takes about ten minutes once, and about two minutes a day after that. It is the simplest discipline in the movement, and the one that moves most.

  1. Step 01

    Ask God for the names

Start small. Ask God to show you one person, then another, until you have five. Family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, the people you see every week without thinking about it.

  2. Step 02

    Write them down

A list you can see is a list you will pray. Put the five names in your phone, in the front of your Bible, or somewhere you look at every morning.

  3. Step 03

Pray for them by name, daily

This is the whole discipline. Prayer prepares hearts and opens the doors God is already creating, and it changes how you see the five people long before it changes them.

  4. Step 04

Care in ways they can feel

Be present and be useful. Offer to help. Ask a thoughtful question and then listen properly. Genuine interest is not a technique, and people can tell the difference.

  5. Step 05

    Share when the door opens

Ask whether there is anything you can pray for them, or tell them what Jesus has done in your life. One conversation. That is the goal, not a whole argument won in an afternoon.

“GO Movement is helping us quit struggling with sharing the Gospel with the people around us. Everyone can reach someone, when we pray, care and share Christ. It's simple, it's biblical and it's critical for our time.”

Rick Warren, Finishing the Task

If you feel fear

Fear is normal, and it does not disqualify you.

Do not wait for it to disappear before you start. Take a step of obedience anyway. As you do, you will begin to recognise that God is already preparing people and moments ahead of you.

Never done this before?

Start simple, and focus on one conversation. It can be as easy as asking, “Is there anything I can pray for you?” or sharing what Jesus has done in your life.

If it helps, do not go alone. Take a friend who is praying for their own five, or prepare your testimony first with the My Story tool.

What to pray for them

The daily BOB prayer gives you the words: a burden for people who do not know God, open doors and eyes to see the people around you, and boldness to speak when the moment comes.

Pray it over your five names. Ninety seconds, every morning.

Next step

Now put words to the praying.

Burden, open doors, boldness. Three words and one short prayer, prayed over your five names every morning.
