Know your why.
Sharing Jesus isn't about having the perfect words. It starts with understanding why it matters.
What gets in the way
Wanting to share doesn't mean it always feels easy.
Most of us know the tension: we want to share Jesus, but something still holds us back.
Fear of rejection
What if they don't want to hear it?
Not knowing what to say
What if I don't have the right words?
Not knowing how to start
How do I bring it up naturally?
Let love become greater than fear.
Clearing the air
Most of what people picture is not the thing.
The word carries a lot of baggage. Set the baggage down and what remains is something you have almost certainly done before, about something else you cared about.
What it is not
- A stage, a microphone or a crowd
- A debate you have to win
- A script you have to memorise word for word
- Something reserved for pastors and missionaries
- A personality type you either have or do not
What it actually is
- One conversation, with one person
- Telling someone what Jesus has done in your life
- Listening properly before you say anything
- Being available rather than being outgoing
- Taking a step, and trusting God with the result
The shape of a real conversation
Their story. My story. God's story.
This is the frame GO Movement teaches churches to practise. It works because it is the order a normal conversation already moves in.
Listening is the first half.
- 01
Their story
You listen first. What is this person carrying, hoping for, afraid of? Most conversations that go somewhere spent their first few minutes here.
- 02
My story
What your life was like before Jesus, how you came to know Him, and what has changed since. Three minutes, in everyday words.
- 03
God's story
The Gospel itself: God loves me, I live apart from God, Jesus gave everything for me, will I choose to follow Him?
The honest questions
What people ask before they try it.
These are the three that come up most, and these are GO Movement's answers to them.
- I'm introverted and don't feel confident talking to strangers.
- You don't need a certain personality to share your faith. This isn't about being outgoing, it's about being available. Start small. Ask God to show you one person. Look for simple, natural moments in your day. You're not doing this alone: the Holy Spirit is already at work in people's lives. Your role is to take a step and trust God with the rest.
- What if I feel fear?
- That's completely normal, and it doesn't disqualify you. Don't wait for it to disappear. Take a step of obedience anyway. As you do, you'll begin to recognise that God is already preparing people and moments ahead of you.
- I've never shared the Gospel before. How do I start?
- Start simple. Focus on one conversation. It can be as easy as asking, “Is there anything I can pray for you?” or sharing what Jesus has done in your life. If it helps, don't go alone, or prepare your testimony with the My Story tool.
Everyday and relational
Three habits that make it normal.
Nobody becomes confident by deciding to be. It comes from small things repeated: praying for named people, asking God for the opening, and knowing your own story well enough to tell it.
The habitMy 5
Name five people already in your life who need prayer, care and the hope of Jesus. Pray for them by name, every day.
